Several new teachers have joined St. X this year, one of whom is Mrs. Kate Brockman. She is a part of the Social Studies Department and spent the last ten years teaching at DeSales.
When you were a student, did you want to become a teacher?
When I was a student, I actually wanted to be a journalist. It wasn’t until I went to college that I decided I wanted to be a high school history teacher.
So far, how is your experience at St. X?
It’s been wonderful. Everyone has been so welcoming and kind — staff and students.
Why did you choose social studies as your subject area?
I have always loved studying the past. I am all consumed with history. Fun for me is visiting a museum or a historical site. I hope to one day have a small role in a cheesy history documentary. Fingers crossed!
What is your favorite aspect of teaching at St. X so far?
I like the caliber of students and knowing I’m teaching with some of the best educators. It challenges me to bring my A game every day.
What is one thing you would like to accomplish in your first year of St. X?
I would like to end the year knowing my students enjoyed learning in my class.
