Logan Zoeller has grown into an absolute star on the football field, but not in the conventional way. As a junior, Zoeller is coming into his second year as the starting kicker after winning the job last year as a sophomore. Zoeller originally started as a soccer player at St. X but found inspiration to play football early on in his St. X career.
“I got into kicking towards the end of the freshman football season,” Zoeller said. “It was something I had always thought was cool watching St. X games growing up.”
Saint Xavier is a school that has produced many elite players on special teams, and starting as a sophomore at kicker is a unique honor. Last season, Zoeller set the record for the most extra points made in a single season with fifty-five made kicks in a row and will look to continue that streak into this season. Zoeller is very thankful and proud of this amazing accomplishment.
“It means a lot to me because it was something I had never thought of doing,” Zoeller said. “I was very happy when I was told that I had broken the record.”
He has cemented himself as one of the top kickers in the state of Kentucky. Over the offseason, Zoeller attended a Kohl’s Kicking Camp, one of the biggest recruiting platforms for high school special teams athletes, and earned a four-and-a-half star rating while also being ranked ninety-eighth in the nation after an amazing performance. Zoeller plans on kicking in college, and he acknowledges that there is still more work to be done.
“During the off-season, I was on the field kicking at least two days a week and lifting twice a week to help with leg strength,” Zoeller said. “I increased my field goal range by close to ten yards and my kickoff distance by about seven-to-ten yards.”
Zoeller looks to make a huge impact this season for the Tigers on their run to the state championship.
