Outthinking the Competition: How the Tiger Runners Train Their Minds

Ben Purnell, Staff Writer October 27, 2022
Coach Yochum stresses to his team that they not only train their legs but also their mental state. A cross country race is five kilometers (3.1 miles), and our elite runners at Saint X run the race in sixteen minutes without stopping. St. X Soccer Shuts Out Trinity

Ben Purnell, Staff Writer September 22, 2022
St. X (14-1-1) came out on top versus Trinity (12-2) with a score of 2-0. Our Tigers came off a big 5-3 win versus the former number one team Ballard on Monday. Trinity played Ballard Saturday, and they lost 0-1. Trinity dropping two straight games is significant because of playoff implications. This win for the Tigers cements them as a major contender for October.

Tiger XC Running for State

Ben Purnell, Staff Writer September 14, 2022
“I think a state title is possible, because we have a solid squad this year. The whole team will need some hill readiness in order to take on this year’s state course, probably one of the hardest and hilliest courses around” sophomore Thomas Weber said. “We’ll need Sami to keep being the fastest dude in the state. We’ll also need our 2, 3, 4, and 5 runners in the sub to low-16s this year in the 5k. Most importantly, the team will need to stay healthy and injury-free.”

Ben Purnell and Luke Daley August 29, 2022
St. X has a storied history of winning state championships. Last spring, the Tigers made history once again, pulling off a clean sweep in state championships for spring sports for the first time ever. The four spring sports the Tigers won are: baseball, lacrosse, tennis, and track and field. The Tigers have only completed a season sweep once in 2009 when St. X swept the fall season sports. These spring sports, along with swimming, were honored in the tiger tunnel last Friday.
